Test Drive

Zachary Elliot filmed two episodes of a web series called Test Drive. Shortly after it began, he was involved in a totally unrelated car crash. The event was a god-shot, whereby he walked away from a head-on collision with a driver of a stolen car fleeing the police on the streets of Venice. Test Drive was canceled shortly thereafter.

The Honda Civic in the photos below was stolen and fleeing the LAPD. Just before it ran a red light at the intersection of Rose and Lincoln in Venice, it swiped a parked car going 80 mph. The driver of the parked car had serious neck injuries. By the time the Civic hit my Porsche head-on, it was going around 65 mph. I was stopped in the center turn lane on Rose, waiting to turn into the Whole Foods Parking lot, fresh out of a workout at Gold’s Gym. It happened so fast, I couldn’t do anything. Thankfully, the airbags deployed, the Civic was mostly plastic, and I walked away totally uninjured. Instinctually, I got out of the destroyed Porsche which had filled with chemical smoke from the airbags. I locked eyes with the driver of the stolen civic, who had blood pouring down his face.

“Are you ok?” he asked.

“Yeah, I think so,” I replied.

Then a handful of LAPD officers rushed us both with guns up. They looked like 20 year olds.

Great, I remember thinking, I survived the crash only to be shot up by the cops.

The driver of the stolen Civic was taken away in an ambulance, handcuffed to a gurney.

I ate dinner at La Cabaña, right across from all the mayhem on Rose. A police helicopter was circling. The cops thought I was in shock. That Porsche truck turned almost 180-degrees from the force of the impact.

Somehow, despite it all, I walked away and enjoyed delicious fajitas from La Cabaña.
